Barriers Ch. 04

I was unpleasantly woken up by the house phone ringing. It was just the school calling to ask my parents where I was. It would be effective for a normal family but definitely didn't work for mine.

I rubbed my eye as I swiped my phone on. Jenna had sent an essay explaining everything like I thought she would. Mark and Jenna met at the gym one day and she wanted to kill him every time she saw him. One day Mark came up to Jenna as she was getting in her car and broke down as she tore into him verbally. Mark explained how since elementary school he had romantic feelings for me and he had no idea what to do so he resorted to bullying me. She felt awful after understanding the entire situation and decided to work with him to try and get me away from Jon. Apparently Mark heard through some girls that Jon's plan was indeed to keep sleeping around and screw me and leave me hanging. They were both afraid Jon was going to hurt me more than I already was. Last night was Jenna desperately trying to get me to go to Mark's place because he had a romantic dinner waiting for me to celebrate my birthday as well as a huge party with half the school. She apologized profusely and swore she only lied because she was looking out for my best interests.

I laid back down and thought about how crazy yesterday was. Just when Jon was starting to win me over, Mark comes back into the picture. I couldn't actually be thinking about pursuing anything with Mark could I? Could I possibly have a romantic relationship with the guy that make my childhood a living hell? Then there was Jon. If Mark was telling the truth I was in real trouble because he would definitely try and pull out all the stops today.

As I was thinking about everything I got one more text from Jenna.

"I love you and care about you and from here on out you should do what makes you happy but PLEASE take care of yourself around Jon until you know his true intentions."

I could forgive Jenna for lying. She simply did what she thought was in my best interest. She figured Mark had no reason to lie after completely losing his emotions when talking to her and took everything he said as the truth. It's not like she interacted with Jon on the level I had at this point so she didn't have all the data to make an informed opinion. Add onto the fact that whatever rumor Mark heard could easily be false it's hard to still be mad at her if I think about it rationally.

As I laid there I heard a knocking at the door. I figured it was Jon coming early like he said he would. I looked at my phone as I climbed the stairs. "10:12" I really needed some rest after the past 2 days apparently.

I opened the door to see Jon standing there with Breakfast.

"Morning sunshine, did you actually sleep?"

"Yeah a little over 10 hours apparently."

"Nice. Well I have bagels and soup again, hope you don't mind."

I motioned for him to come in and he put everything down on my dining room table.

"I need you to pack for the weekend. Do you have club clothes?"

"Uhhh what?"

"We're going to a night club in Atlantic City on Saturday, I don't want you being denied because you only brought jeans and hoodies."

"Why the hell would I go to a nightclub?"

"Probably because Hardwell is playing tommorow. I was going to keep it a surprise but you forced my hand." Jon was laying out everything he bought as he told me this. For those of you who don't know Hardwell is considered the best DJ in the world at the moment. It's a pretty big deal.

"Holy crap you're fucking amazing!" I ran over and hugged him. "Thank you so much! I can pay for the ticket no matter how much it is I had no idea he was there this weekend."

"Moneys not a problem for me Jason, don't worry about it. I just want this to be your best birthday ever. I know how shitty your past has been but I want you to forget about it and move forward into the future happy. With or without me as long as you're happy I'll be happy." He reached at the bottom of the bag confused as if he was looking for something. "Ah here it is. Part 2 of your birthday, enjoy." He handed me a slim red envelope with a piece of plastic stuck in it.

I figured it was just a happy birthday card or something dumb so I opened it to entertain him. My eyes widened once again. It was two tickets to the biggest electronic festival in New York at the end of the Year. "Ok Jon this is a bit much I'm just gonna pay you for these I'm just as well off as you apparently. How much were they?"

"About 500 if I recall correctly. I don't expect you to have that kind of cash on you."

As he said that I ran downstairs and went into my Closet and opened my safe. I counted out five hundred dollar bills, locked my safe and ran back up.

"I'm not even going to ask. Give me 200, I'm going with you anyways. At least I hope so." He winked "Now sit down and eat that soup before it gets cold."

The last time I had a meal in my dining room was about eight months ago when my parents invited their potential new business partners and their bratty 5 year old kids to dinner. It was quite the spectacle watching both sets of parents not knowing a thing about children. I laughed as I thought about it while I ate my chicken and rice soup.

"Whats so funny?"

"Just thought about the last time I ate in here."

"How long ago was that?"

"About eight months."

"So you parents are basically never home?"

"Nope!" I spread cream cheese on my bagel. "Its fine my trust fund is worth a couple hundred thousand i think I can live with the consequences."

As we finished up breakfast Jon told me what the plan was. We were going to the mall after this to pick up clothes for the weekend since I clearly didn't have anything appropriate for a club. After that it's a couple hours out to Atlantic City and we were staying at the casino hotel attached to the club Hardwell was spinning at. I couldn't believe he got this together overnight and I told him I would split all costs with him considering how expensive Atlantic City can be. He said not to worry about it but told me his birthday was the weekend of another music festival and I should plan accordingly.

"Ok I need to talk to you about last night before we move forward..."

"Oh god. This is where you tell me you fucked Mark like a bitch in heat last night and this is all an elaborate prank and everyone comes out and laugh at me!" He got up and pretended to make a giant scene "OK GUYS YOU GOT ME I'LL KNOW BETTER NEXT TIME!!"

"You're retarded you know that?"

"Sorry a stupid habit." He sat back down and went back to eating his bagel.

"So Jenna and you have the world's biggest misunderstanding I'm pretty sure. Mark heard from some girl that you were looking to use me."

"Haha...who did he hear it from?"

"Jenna said he didn't specify...why?"

Jon took a deep breath. "Well I did originally want to just screw you with no strings attached. I honestly though you would of gone for it before I got to know you." He got up and sat down next to me in another chair. "But after I got to know you I knew that I had found someone I would want to spend more than a night with. I want your first time in everything to be memorable in a good way. I was hoping the first time I kissed you would spark your true emotions. I mean...it did in a way now that I think about it but from here on out I only want the best memories with you and me."

"Ok you need to stop this is a bit much."

"Well Jason it's how I honestly feel."

"Anyways," I looked away to continue on about last night. "I still cant believe that Mark has had feelings for me this long. I think he's still going to fight to win me from you so you should probably prepare for that."

"He's already lost as far as I'm concerned. He's not the one taking you to Atlantic City this weekend." He smirked.

"So humble. The bright side is Jenna is back to being a neutral party and just wants me to be happy. She's still "dating" Mark until he's ready to come out to everyone. Apparently they're really good friends now and after his little revelation it doesn't bother me at all."

"Good. There's no reason to be bitter and angry about the past when you're trying to be happy." I really hated when Jon went all Psychologist on me. Sometimes I think he just talks to talk.

"So if you just talk to Jenna and sort things out after this weekend I'm sure she won't hate your guts anymore."

"Consider it done, But question."

"Shoot."

"Does this mean we're dating now?"

"Let's figure that out after this weekend." I started to clean up everything. "Who knows you might see me worse than on Wednesday."

"That's when I knew."

"What?"

"That's when I knew I wanted to be with you for sure Jason." He got up and looked out the nearest window. He was almost hesitant when he spoke.

Hot water ran over my hands as I rinsed the dishes. It was all pretty surreal how amazing Jon has been to me. It was a strange yet good feeling. I took a moment to look at him as he stared out the window into my backyard. He dressed very comfortably because he knew he had to drive a pretty long distance. A thin black hoodie covered the majority of his upper body, it was halfway zipped up and a bright white undershirt covered his chest. He finished the outfit with gray sweatpants and some slip on sandals.

"When you figured out you were Bi did you ever actually think you would wanna be with a guy?" I put the last of the plates in the dishwasher and walked downstairs to pack.

"In all honestly, no." He followed me down. "It's strange. I wasn't afraid of being Bisexual. We live in a day and age where I don't get much flack for it, I don't plan on playing basketball after high school, and my parents are the most accepting Chinese people I have ever met in my life. But I never thought I would actually fall in love with a guy emotionally. I thought I would just fuck through college or something and settle down with some white girl when I was twenty five. Funny how life works."

"Well you might still get to live out that dream if you fuck up this weekend." I yelled from my closet as I packed my duffel bag.

"Somehow I think I'll have won you over after it. Do you mind if I use your computer while you pack?"

"Go nuts."

I packed a couple blank colored shirts, a few pairs of jeans, some dress shoes, a couple pairs of fancy socks, my best underwear and two hoodies in my bag. I dragged it to my bathroom and looked to see what Jon was doing. I couldn't see very well because of the pillars blocking the way but he appeared to be searching for something. I threw my toiletries into a ziploc and put that in another section of my duffel away from the rest of my clothes.

"I can look like shit when we check in right? Do I need to change?"

"You'll never look like shit and yeah don't worry we'll be checked in before you need to look better than you are now."

"Ok for real Jon I need you to stop with the constant compliments. I'm still not sure what I want even if I did deny Mark. You showering me with compliments only makes things worse." I plopped my bag next to Jon to see what he was looking at. Turns out he was looking up the street price of Molly.

"Oh crap you don't have an issue with drugs right? I completely forgot to ask."

"Oh no I have no issue with anything that isn't meth or heroine."

"Whew. I thought I messed up here."

"Well it is pretty dumb to look up drug prices on my computer. I'm probably on some watch list now."

"Where does I sign up for this watch Jason Andrews list?" Jon growled like an idiot.

"You are the pinnacle of retardation. Whatever big boy put my stuff in your car and we're off to the mall."

"Your wish is my command emperor." He got up and lifted my bag with ease. "How long you gonna be?" He shouted from upstairs.

"Just grabbing my charger and heading out!"

As soon as he was outside my house I went back into my safe, counted out two grand and threw the birthday check from my parents into it. After hearing my safe lock and making sure I had exactly two grand in cash I ran outside and locked the door. This weekend was going to be make or break for Jon and I was definitely hoping for the former.

"Tell me more about your family you know way too much about mine at this point."

"Uhh we own five restaraunts. One here, one in Philly and three in New Jersey. My parents are currently training me to take over the one in this area over the next year or so. They want to move back to New Jersey, something about being too far from Chinatown. I can still go to college if want to but my job will definitely be running the family business here unless I want to be disowned." Jon parked the car as he finished up his explanation. "I think I'm going to go to college in Philly and major in marketing or something. I don't really have a defined plan if you were wondering. Might be willing to adjust if I have someone in my life."

"Why are you always trying to be so suave? Do you think I'm just gonna melt on the ground and tell you to take me right here and now after so many attempts?" I probably lose my temper a little bit too often in all honestly. He's just making jokes and trying to cute there's really no harm in it.

"Crap I keep saying I'll stop but I don't. I swear I'll be better by the end of the night. In the meantime let's try shopping here." Jon pointed to the Uniqlo in front of us I had no idea about shopping for myself in person to be completely honest. I just ordered everything online for the sake of non-interaction with other human being.

"Uhh sure."

I only needed a couple dress shirts undershirts and slacks it couldn't be that hard to figure this place out by myself.

"How many of each do you think I need?"

"Like 3 shirts, 3 slacks and a pack of undershirts."

"So uhh what colors do you think I should get?"

"I think you'd look good in dark colors like this one." Jon pulled a small black long sleeve dress shirt off the rack. "It contrasts from your skin so you stand out in a crowd."

"Alright dark colors it is."

"Nice. I'll go get your pants and undershirts. What size are you again?" He decided to take this time to press my sweatpants against my ass. He felt amazing honestly but it definitely wasn't the time or place for that.

"30 slim." I shoved his hand away and gave him a look.

"Fine. I'll bring them over to your dressing room so you can try them out. Excuse me!" Jon called over a short Latina girl. "Hi can you get my friend in a dressing room he needs to try out some shirts and pants. We're going clubbing to celebrate his birthday."

"Oooo, Sound like fun I wished someone would take me clubbing! Follow me." She motioned with her finger to the other side of the store

As soon as Jon went to go find my pants she nudged me. "Yo is your boy single? He's fucking gorgeous and I'm not normally into Asian guys!"

"Uhh I'll tell you after this weekend..."

"You aint finding anything at the club to bring home let's be real here." She pursed her lips acting like I was lying to her.

"Uhh no you have the wrong idea I think."

"Oh he."

"Yeah."

"With you?"

"Maybe, the balls in my court I haven't decided yet."

"ARE YOU KIDDING ME? YOU'RE SAYING NO TO THAT?" She pointed to him as he bent over to grab the smaller sizes from the bottom of the shelf. Perfect view of his round ass through his sweatpants.

"Aye I can't this is too much and I'm working."

She fanned herself to amplify the exaggeration. "You better say yes boy or you're missing out on some amazing sex."

"We'll see. Now which room can I use?"

"O sry hun I'm just so hung up on your man goddamn." She took another glance at his ass. "First one of the left, I'll go tell him you're in there. DAMN he is FINNEEEEEE" She walked in his direction clearly taking her sweet time.

While most people would be pissed off that some random girl is ogling their man, I was more surprised that I had a conversation with someone without flipping out on them. I wasn't threatened by her honestly, she's just some poor girl living in a fantasy world.

I walked into the changing room and peeled off my shirt and tried on the black one Jon picked out for me. I buttoned it all the way up and realized he was right. My skin was rather pale because I didn't spend much time in the sun and the black contrasted it nicely. Once I finished buttoning it all the way Jon opened the door and walked in.

"You would think Uniqlo would hydrate their employees. That girl might as well be death valley holy crap." He looked up after closing the door and put the pants down on a chair. "Nah you don't button it all the way, you wanna keep two buttons unbuttoned on top like this. He undid the top two buttons with one hand. "See now you look a million times better even with those skinny jeans on." He inched closer to me to fix my sleeves and collar. "Yeah so much better. Oh fuck."

Jon backed away and out of the corner of my eye I saw why in the mirror. "Are you seriously not wearing any underwear right now?"

"Old Habits die hard I guess." He chuckled and handed me a pair of slacks. "Try those on if you like them buy them. I'm gonna get out of here so Jon Jr stops jumping." He quickly closed the door and left me to try on the rest of my clothes by himself. What an idiot.

I tried the rest of clothes on and I realized how good I looked actually dressing up well instead of wearing tees and jeans all the time. Everything fit nicely. I put my clothes back on and walked out to Jon sitting there trying to calm down what appeared to be a rather aroused boner.

"Give me a sec...ok there holy crap." Jon walked up to the counter not making eye contact with me. He was clearly paying the price for his attire today. It was cute in a moronic way.

The same girl rang us up at the register.

"That will be $364.94."

"Here you go." Before I could even pull out my wallet Jon had $400 in his hand.

"Aye, he's paying for you too? Rachel come finish this sale I need to breathe." She ran off in a hurry fanning herself. Me and Jon looked at each other and started laughing.

"Sorry about that...my manager can be quite emotional. It keeps things interesting to say the least." A tall black girl replaced our sexually repressed Latina friend. "So that will be $364.94. Thank you very much and come again."

As soon as we walked out of the store I slapped him on the arm. "Really? Today of all days you chose to do THAT?"

"Ow. Yeah I know im an idiot but you like what you saw right?" He smiled sheepishly and nudged me.

"You know it's getting real hard to believe you're not gonna play me when you keep doing shit you would do to a girl that you don't care about."

"Well when we get to the hotel we'll see if you still think i'm treating you like some fling." Jon picked up his pace moving to the car. "We're running late we can't miss our dinner reservation."

I threw my bag in the back seat and prepared myself to the long drive.

"How far are we looking at anyways?"

"About 4 hours."

"Christ. Can I sleep at least?"

"Yeah sure I'll wake you when we're close."

I managed to stay awake for the first half hour but I trained myself at a young age to fall asleep in extended trips. It makes them go faster. Between that and Jon reaching over every so often and caress my leg, before I knew it I was sound asleep awaiting the rest of my birthday.I was unpleasantly woken up by the house phone ringing. It was just the school calling to ask my parents where I was. It would be effective for a normal family but definitely didn't work for mine.

Between that and Jon reaching over every so often and caress my leg, before I knew it I was sound asleep awaiting the rest of my birthday.
